In my previous post, How to Stop Wasting Your Website Dollars - Take the First Step, I talked about the two primary reasons that businesses don't gain traction with website leads and sales.
When I say, they don't gain traction, I mean that they are not regularly receiving leads through the website that can convert to a sale.
It's that simple. If your website doesn't do that, then it isn't working for you.
It's time to be brutally honest. You're in denial if you tell everyone you have a "great website", but it doesn't consistently advance your business.
You have only two options:
1. Change your expectations. Go ahead and give up on any expectation that the website will produce business. Let it just sit there invisible to the whole world.
2. Change what you're doing. Develop goals and a strategy to achieve your goals. You can afford to develop a good search marketing strategy and the return will exceed any other marketing investment you may be planning.
If you're budget is small or if you believe that DIY is the best fit for you, then our Search Marketing eLab is the place to begin.
If you have an existing website and don't have time or the confidency for DIY efforts, then a website audit is the best place to begin.

Based from my experience, websites need to constantly introduce new content that are relevant and are socially viable.

Absolutely. The difficulty for small business owners is knowing "relevant" and "socially viable" content. They are overwhelmed with advice, you should be on facebook, you should have a twitter account, you should, you should, you should... They need consultants who help translate their USP to simple content that connects with their target. If they can't excel at fresh, simple content, they won't excel in social media campaigns.
